Four decades ago, a group of dedicated families, carers, and professionals in the North East founded the Northern Schizophrenia Fellowship (NSF) with a membership of around 300 people.

Today, known as Mental Health Matters, we are proud to support 15,000 people per month to improve their mental health and wellbeing!

This journey would not have been possible without the commitment, passion, and dedication of our amazing teams across the country.

On the 26 June, as part of our year of celebration, our teams held birthday tea parties in our services nationwide. These parties were an opportunity for everyone to get together, reflect on our achievements, and discuss our hopes for the future over a piece of cake!

Jane Hughes, CEO of Mental Health Matters, said, "It has been a fantastic week with celebrations across the country recognising Mental Health Matters 40th birthday."

"What a long way the organisation has come from its roots in the North East of England to providing support and services in every region of the country. This is an incredible achievement and I am proud and honoured to lead an organisation of people who are so committed to our vision to ensure everyone can access support for their mental health to live a meaningful life, in a society free from stigma."
