Last week, Lauren from our Newcastle Supported Housing service helped tenants to organise a very successful coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Lauren told us a bit more about how the day went...

After a few tenants taking a liking for the coffee mornings that we had been having at Newcastle Supported Housing recently, we decided it might be nice to take part in the Macmillan 'World's Biggest Coffee Morning' fundraising event, as it was for a good cause and would be enjoyed by all.

We invited other people from local services, and one of the tenants and I ordered the free Macmillan coffee morning pack which consisted of bunting, balloons, table cloth and some games for us to play throughout the coffee morning (including 'pin the cherry on the cake' which everyone found very fun!) We're also lucky enough to have a gazebo at the service, which allows us to set up the courtyard and be prepared for all weathers - although the weather turned out quite nice in the end.

The Friday before the coffee morning, two tenants went out and got some baking ingredients, as well as some other refreshments for the day. It was great to have the whole staff team and tenants on board!

On the day, we had a great turnout - some tenant's parents attended, as well as tenants fro across our local supported housing properties and staff from MHM and other organisations. It was really great to have staff members from other services to attend, this allowed everyone to become familiar with other agencies in the local community.

Everyone had a fantastic morning and enjoyed the cakes and games, and we also raised £31 for Macmillan Cancer Support!
