Tommy Armstrong Tommy works as Managing Advocate of Total Voice Sunderland. In this role he helps the service manager, employed by MHM's partners Voiceability, run Total Voice. Tommy manages a case load working in advocacy and also line manages five other Advocates. He also oversees the service's referral waiting list to ensure waiting times are kept to a minimum. Tommy held a variety of roles in social care for 38 years before joining MHM, mainly in the fields of statutory care and housing. These have included being in charge of Offender Housing and Mental Health Housing services in Gateshead and South Tyneside. Tommy joined MHM in January 2016 as an Advocate working with Total Voice Sunderland, working as an IMHA (Independent Mental Health Advocate). This role involved supporting those people detained under the Mental Health Act in hospital and also visiting people who were on Community Treatment Orders in their own homes. Tommy took up his current role of Managing Advocate in August 2017. Tommy is qualified in Independent Advocacy with a specialism in Mental Health and Mental Capacity Advocacy. He holds an NVQ Level 3 in Social Care and a level 2 qualification from the Chartered Institute of Housing. Tommy has a varied active life outside of work which include going on walks with his dog, attending the gym regularly each week and also doing DIY around the home he shares with his wife and the family pets.
