What we do:

If you’re experiencing mental health problems and want to get back into work or need support to stay in work then we’re here to help you. We can work with you to understand your situation and tailor our support to meet your needs and aspirations. Our employment advisors are specifically trained to recognise and work with individuals with mental health problems and they concentrate on what you can do rather than on what you can’t.

We provide:

  • One to one support
  • Support to find paid work, become self employed or set up a social enterprise
  • Job coaching and in-work support
  • Support in negotiating reasonable adjustments with your employer and help in getting back to your job after being off sick

The support can be provided face-to-face, by phone, and email. Sometimes a brief conversation with one of the services advisors is all the support that’s needed.

We are flexible in the way we provide support to meet individual’s needs. Support is mainly provided Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm, but there are situations where meetings can be offered outside of these times with enough prior notice. Face-to-face meetings can take place in local cafes, libraries, community centres, GP surgeries etc.

We also work with employers to raise their awareness of mental wellbeing in the workplace and what they can do to support their employees.

The service is part of Bristol Mental Health which consists of 18 voluntary and statutory services that have been commissioned by Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group’s (BNSSG CCG’s) to provide mental health support.

More information on Bristol Mental Health can be found on their website

As a member of Bristol Mental Health we work closely with a variety of organisations which includes the NHS’s mental health support teams, and voluntary mental health services to provide joined-up and comprehensive support for you. Bristol Mental Health Employment Service is a partnership of the Richmond Fellowship, Mental Health Matters (MHM), Bristol Somali Resource Centre, and Windmill Hill City Farm which maximises local opportunities and meet the needs of Bristol’s diverse communities.

Who is the service for?

We work with people aged 18 and over who either live within, or are registered with a GP within, the city of Bristol.
We can provide support if you are looking for employment, or are in employment and need support to keep your job, and are experiencing mental health problems. (You don’t need a formal diagnosis.)

How do I access the service?

You can call or email the service, using the details above, to ask for support; family, friends, GPs, other health/social care professionals, and employers can also contact us to seek support and make a referral on someone’s behalf.
