Volunteer with us Mental Health Matters values the support and commitment of volunteers and views their contribution as an integral part of our continuing success. Volunteering with MHM is a meaningful way to help those in your local community access support for their mental health when it’s needed. We are compassionate, accountable, collaborative and proud and look to our volunteers to share our values! What are the benefits of volunteering? We want to support a volunteers personal and professional growth and development, and as such we hope you experience a range of benefits from volunteering with us: Making a difference You will undoubtedly contribute to making a positive difference in peoples lives, whilst also making a valuable contribution to the community in which you live. You will also have the opportunity to give insight and feedback to further develop our services. Flexibility We understand our volunteers may live busy lives, and respect their boundaries in relation to the hours they can commit. Ideally, we look for volunteers who can contribute to one session a week in their chosen role, but will always try to be flexible in fitting around other commitments! Personal development Our volunteering opportunities offer individuals the chance to make new friends and improve their self-esteem and confidence as valued members of a team. Professional development You will receive a comprehensive induction into MHM, which includes high-quality training (either individually or as a group, face-to-face or e-learning modules). We also encourage volunteers to take advantage of our extensive range of e-learning modules available to anyone who works with us. You will get invaluable work experience whilst volunteering and we will support you with ongoing supervision and support as and when needed, as well as the opportunity to receive professional references (after you've been with us for 3 months). Many of our volunteers are even encouraged to apply to join us more officially in paid roles! Reimbursement We don't expect our volunteers to be out of pocket whilst travelling to and from our services and as such will provide reasonable travel expenses of up to £5 a day. Search for a volunteer role Frequently Asked Questions Read more Is there an age limit for volunteering with MHM? We have no upper age limit for our volunteer roles, but request that all our volunteers are 18+. Can I volunteer if I am claiming benefits? If you are currently claiming any benefits, volunteering shouldn't affect this as long as you are still able to meet the conditions for receiving those benefits eg, you need to be free to attend job interviews. Please speak to your job coach or benefits adviser before starting to volunteer. What is the application process? We encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering with us to complete an application form or contact our volunteer coordinator for more information and an informal chat about the roles available. We will invite any prospective volunteers to attend an interview, and if we feel we may be able to offer you a suitable role you will also be invited to visit our service for a look around, meet with the team manager and potentially even observe a session! Do I need to complete a DBS check? Yes, we require all volunteers to undertake DBS checks when working with us. We are committed to treating all applicants equally, and undertake not to discriminate unfairly against the subject of a positive disclosure. Can I leave if I don't like the role? Of course! We hope that all our volunteers have a positive experience with us, and we welcome feedback on how we would make improvements where needed. We would encourage any volunteer to talk to us before making the decision to leave, but ultimately you are free to leave at any time. Manage Cookie Preferences
